Are the Returning Organization Members Humans or Nobodies?

The status of the returning Organization XIII members has always been a confusing point.

From Dream Drop Distance, it would be easy to assume they’re all human again, except that Xigbar continues to use the name Xigbar. It made sense that he might simply be using his “X” name to signify his role in Xehanort’s plans and that his appearance naturally changed with age…

…until Re:coded got a new secret ending showing Braig with his human appearance.

Some people, like me, theorized that Braig and Xigbar were both around, with one of them being a time traveler.

Then the Dream Drop Distance trailers revealed Marluxia, still using the name Marluxia, and the debate began again. Are the former Organization members in the new Organization still Nobodies, or are they human?

Nomura recently addressed this in an interview with Famitsu. As translated by KH13, the former Organization members working with Sora are human, and the ones in the new Organization…

…came back as humans but then turned into Nobodies again.

This was one of the theories to explain the Braig/Xigbar discrepancy, but what makes this unusual is that the interview says it happened in “a different way.”

In short, it sounds as though Xigbar, Saix, Marluxia, Larxene, and Luxord are Nobodies again, but not time travelers. They came back as humans, but somehow became Nobodies again. (An earlier translation said they were human, but it appears that one was inaccurate.)
